GROUP & PRIVATE SURF LESSONS

We offer group and private lessons for every skill level. We offer one session in the morning and one session in the afternoon. Our instructors were born and raised in Kuta, Lombok so they have a deep understanding of surfing the wide array of breaks in the area.  They will ensure that your lesson will take place under the best possible conditions on that day. There is generally great surf around Kuta year round, but the key is to have a local guide that knows where to find it on any given day. Your safety and enjoyment is always our main concern.

GoPro Photography & Videography

All of our lessons are photographed and filmed on GoPro cameras (with your permission) in case you want to bring home some memories of the day.  A collaboration of photos/videos of the lesson can be purchased on a 8GB USB key so that it can be viewed and shared on any device.

We will arrange transportation depending on which break we decide to surf.  This will either be scooter rental or private car depending on the trip details.  Scooters with surf racks are rented for $7 USD per day and they can get you to nearly all the best breaks easily within an hours drive.  Some surf spots also require a boat rental, which will also be arranged for $w20 -USD depending on the spot.

Ding Repair

We provide some of the best ding repair in Lombok.  If you are surfing with your own equipment and need a repair we can usually get you back in the water within 24 hours at a fair cost.

The Breaks

Kuta, Lombok has a wide range of breaks within a short drive for all skill levels. We will assess your skill level along with the daily conditions to determine which spot is best for you.  Or you can choose any spot you like and we will arrange everything you need to get you there.

Don Don Gerupuk

Located in the middle of the Gerupuk Bay, this wave only breaks when the swell is a big.  The wave is an A frame with a nice left and right section and is good for beginners to advanced depending on the day.  It is the furthest break inside the bay and thus needs the most swell and is generally best with an outgoing tide and light winds.

Inside Right – Gerupuk

This wave is also located on the Gerupuk Bay over a soft reef.  This is a perfect spot for beginners because the wave is long and easy and the surrounding cliffs provide nice protection from the winds.  It is the most crowded wave in the bay so it is best to get there for a sunrise session if possible.

Outside Right – Gerupuk

This right-hander breaks beautifully off the point when the swell is big.  The drop is big and there is a fast inside section. This spot gets too shallow at low tide and should only be tackled by more experienced surfers.  There are some hidden rocks exposed at lower tides so be careful.

Inside Ekas

Ekas Bay is the next bay east of Gerupuk, and it is the largest bay in Lombok. Located right by the Ekas village, this is the smaller of the breaks in this bay.  This spot requires a longer boat ride then Gerupuk Bay but on big days it can be worth it.  There is a right-hander that works at high tides and a fast left that breaks when the tide is low.  It is best with a big swell and southeast winds, but when it is working it is always worth the trip.

Outside Ekas

This is the larger break in this bay, and should be left to more experienced surfers when the swell is big.  There is a long powerful left-hander that is as good as any wave around when it is working right.  The currents here can be challenging at times.

Air Guling

This spot offers clean, consistent surf year round when the conditions are right.  Because the reef is fairly exposed it is best left to advanced surfers, but there are often less crowds here even on the best days.  The best swell direction is from the south-southwest and generally works better at lower tides.  This spot is best in the wet season, when the offshore winds blow from north to north east.  The road in is quite tough at times on a scooter.

Mawi Beach

This spot is roughly a 20-minute scooter ride from Kuta, and the scenery here is spectacular.  The wave breaks over a fairly sharp reef, but this spot has good waves year round. When the swell is big double overhead conditions are common, offering steep drops and barrels.  Both breaks are affected by wind and this spot is generally best at mid tide.

Seger Reef

This is the closet break to Kuta, and it is often best when the swell is smaller.  This spot holds many of Kuta’s best surf comps including the Rip Curl Gromm Search, and has a nice barrel section when the conditions are right. It is a powerful right-hander, and often best after heavy rains. The large hill next to the parking lot offers panoramic views and amazing sunsets.

Mawun Beach

Located 20 minutes from Kuta this beach has large hills protecting it on either side.  Perfect for relaxing, swimming, and hiking for people of all ages.  It is also a great place to surf, with both a left and right-handed peak and great protection from the wind.  It will need at least a few feet to break properly, but the beach is pristine and the surrounding scenery is beautiful. This beach is listed as the #2 thing to do in Lombok on Trip Advisor.

Selong BelanAk Beach

This is a perfect beach break for beginner’s located 30 minutes from Kuta.  The waves break fairly close to the shore and it is best at high tide or when the tides are shifting.  It is protected from the wind so it makes for a really fun first lesson.  The beach offers white sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters.  There are no reefs or rocks, and the surf is generally quite light, perfect for a first lesson.  This beach is listed as the #3 thing to do in Lombok on Trip Advisor.

Desert Point

This spot is a 3-hour drive from Kuta and is known as one of the best waves in the region.  For advanced surfers only, 10-second tube sections are common when swell is big and the conditions are right.  Weeks can pass where this break remains completely flat, but when it’s working it is a world-class left-hander.  Experts only at this break.

Weather

The wet season (November – March) brings a bit of rain but mostly in the evenings or at night.  We still surf in light rain, and the off-season is a great time to visit because there are less crowds and accommodation is less expensive.  Also, unlike Bali the wet season does not wash garbage into the water when the waterways flood, so the beaches and water are much cleaner year round.

What to Bring

The sun is powerful year round. We highly recommend wearing a strong SPF (30 min) sunscreen and zinc.  Travel to nearby surf breaks is generally by scooters which are equipped with surf racks, (private cars can also easily be arranged) so pack lightly if possible.  Flip flops, board shorts, and a rash guard are generally fine most days, but a rain jacket is also recommended if there is rain in the forecast.  There are plenty of great restaurants, bars and accommodation nearby as well.  The store next door sells beer, cigarettes, and snacks and there are many shops close by for anything you may need before or after your lesson.  Just remember, some of the breaks require boat access ($5 USD) so bring anything you may want for the day and the driver will keep it safe on the boat for you (water, sunscreen, towel, snacks).
